Riccarton bush

We had a school trip to Riccarton Bush. We walked in the gate  then something caught my eye, there was this awesome tree and all the trunks were twisted, I've never seen something like this  before.

Discovery reflection

My favourite activity was craft. We made a house full of little people and we made a games room, a mum and dad's room, a kids room, a lounge and a bathroom.  We are going to make a bar and a kitchen. I enjoyed working with Olive and Ella as before this I hadn’t really worked with Olive that much. I also enjoyed making our creation and we had a really good result. I also learnt how to nearly do a backbend.

Our challenge was sorting out who was bringing the boxes and stuff because at school they didn't have a decent size. When Ella and I decided that we were going to do a games room Olive said she wanted to do it too, so she did it with us. I got my mum to buy a whole lot of stuff so I could do it at home.  Olive said she wanted to do it with me but we sorted it out I only did a little bit at home, and Olive was fine with that.

Waking up

As I lie in my bed with the birds chirping outside I gaze around my room. I see my tv sitting still, my wardrobe standing tall full of clothes, my bookshelf looking as if a bomb has hit it and my window sitting peacefully. My Mum rushes into my room, pulls open my curtains and switches on the light to wake me up. She nags at me to get out of bed to have a shower.  It was only 6:45 am, I never get up this early!  My body felt so heavy as if I was a massive blue whale. Once I had finished getting ready me and my brother stumbled down the stairs to have  breakfast. After breakfast we went to see my little baby cousin in my Aunty’s tummy before heading to school.

Stereotyping

Stereotyping is an unfair thing that people say that's not true, you should never judge a book by it's cover.  It can be offensive to other people because it can make them feel different when they're not.

Here is an example of stereotyping - ‘girls only like pink and boys only like blue.’ I disagree because people can choose what colour they like and don't like.

Here is another example of stereotyping - ‘boys only play rough sports and girls don't.’ I disagree because lots of girls play rough sports like me as an example, I play rugby league and some boys might like netball.

A third example of stereotyping  is ‘all asians are smart. I agree and disagree. I agree because I go home and watch TV while some Asians I know go home and study. I also disagree because some Asians could really struggle and need lots of help.

Overall I think that stereotyping is an unfair because it can hurt people's feelings.  People can choose what colour they like and what sport they play. Never judge somebody by the way they look.

Camp moment

Outside, children, bikes, tracks weave on their bikes round the corner in the forest as the instructor leads us round the forest, bikes round the corners and pedals over the bumps on the dusty track.

Outside harnesses, ropes, trees stand still in the cold wind under the trees while Ashley tells us what to do, teaches us a safety rap and clicks us in under the shady trees.

Outside controls, maps, kids race round the forest while children sprint, twist their maps upside down and have fun amongst  the trees.

Where does my heart lie?

Where does my heart lie?

Where the bike track twists and turns its body through the forest.

Where the lolly shop screams out to me to come in.

Where the bach wraps me up in a blanket to keep me warm.

Where Conical hill encourages me to keep going when I want to stop.

Where the pools just sit there waiting for me to jump in.

Learning reflection

Reflection of Poetic memoir

This term I created a soundscape to match my poetic memoir because it pulls you deeper into the story and then the reader knows how you feel when you go there.

I learnt how to record sounds and instruments and I learnt  how to change the dynamics and tempo by using a slower/ faster beat.  My learning is relational because I can create mood/emotions like nervous, excited, happy, sad, angry, worried or embarrassed on garageband.

My next step is being able to teach others so they can show mood and emotions on garageband. I also need to seek feedback on how I can improve.

Memoir of a special place

The campground was usual enough; it had
A beach,a sea,a jetty, the sunshine
Over it, and a playground
I always went to. My brother, my cousins and I
Did what kids do - jumped off
The jetty, went kayaking,  went fishing,
Swam or skied
Doing nothing important.

The story of my name

My mum and dad picked my name. This is how they decided on my name.  Two of my great nana's were called Isobel and Valerie.  My mum and dad liked both names but they decided to call me Isabella and my middle name Valerie.

There were four main names that my mum and dad liked, they were Ava, Maia, Amelia and Isabella. My dad only liked Amelia and Isabella, my mum didn't like Amelia as much, so I was called Isabella.

If I was a boy I would have been called Jackson.  My nickname is Izzy because it’s short for Isabella.  The thing I like about my name is that it suits me and it's not posh.
